Hotzone Solutions Group (HZS) recently participated in the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) 2023 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from February 20-24. This event marked a significant milestone in HZS’s first quarter, as it opened the door to an array of contracts, projects, and collaborations across the Middle East and North Africa.

As a leading provider of training solutions and products for CBRNe/HAZMAT events, Hotzone Solutions aims to enhance the capabilities of both public and private sectors to predict, respond, mitigate, and recover from such incidents. During the event, Hotzone Solutions’ CEO had the privilege of meeting with key stakeholders, including His Excellency the Commander in Chief for Civil Defence, the Head of the Civil Defence Academy in Abu Dhabi, and the Civil Defence Unit in Sharjah. This high-level engagement proved to be an invaluable opportunity for Hotzone Solutions to strengthen its position in the region and foster new partnerships.

Delegates who previously attended HZS’s training courses in ICI Belgium and other training facilities in Europe expressed their excitement regarding future CBRN training. These interactions further solidified HZS’s reputation as a preferred partner for organizations seeking top-quality training solutions.

At IDEX, Hotzone Solutions attracted significant interest from companies in India, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and the UAE, who were keen to explore the Live Agent Training offered by HZS for their armed forces, police, and customs officers. CBRNe defence equipment providers also expressed their enthusiasm for collaborating with HZS, leading to new contracts and agreements for equipment testing with live agents.

In conclusion, Hotzone Solutions’ participation in IDEX 2023 was a definite success, yielding new contacts, partnerships, and opportunities for growth, together with our new, and old, long-lasting, partners. The CEO of Hotzone Solutions Group, Mr Olivier Mattmann, was received by General Simeon Trajkovski, Head of G-5, Strategic Planning and Development in the General Staff of North Macedonian Armed Forces and associated high-ranking officers delegation.

After recognizing areas of possible collaboration and expressing mutual interest in further looking into all the possible ways of cooperation, the visit continued with an organized trip to the Military Training Area “Krivolak”- CBRN areas.

The visit concluded with an agreement to further explore the potential for military-civilian/corporate sector cooperation between Hotzone Solutions and the North Macedonian authorities. The visit was a significant step forward for Hotzone Solutions, as it demonstrates the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in the region and providing its clients with the highest level of technical expertise and services in the field of CBRN security. This message is to inform you about a forthcoming event in the Disaster-Resilient Societies (DRS) Thematic Area that will take place in a hybrid format in Brussels on the 23-25 March 2022.

Program: DRS March Event_Agenda outline

This follows up the cancelation of a similar event that was planned in December. The event is part of the 2022 agenda of the “Community of European Research and Innovation for Security (CERIS)”, covering various DRS aspects, namely Societal Resilience, CBRN-E, Standardisation, Technologies for First Responders and Pandemics crisis management. In this respect, DG HOME has encouraged a range of H2020 DRS projects to join forces in co-organising/chairing this event, contributing to set-up the agenda of the different sessions, which will involve a larger number of H2020 projects as well as representatives of different sectors (policy-making, research, SME/Industry, practitioners, civil society), thus providing a high-level platform of exchanges in the DRS area contributing to CERIS objectives. The meeting will be held in Brussels (BAO Congress Centre), mixing a physical participation (max. 100 participants) and a virtual attendance (via WebEx). A first agenda outline is attached. A consolidated version will be released before the end of February along with the opening of the registration platform. The meeting will take place from Wednesday 23^rd March to Friday 25^th March. For your information, the schedule of DRS virtual events that was announced at the end of last year had to changed owing to other priorities. The plan is now to hold 2h30-WebEx events (from 10 to 12:30 each day) that will invite recently launched H2020 and Horizon Europe DRS projects to meet with advanced projects in order to exchange about the state-of-the-art of different DRS areas and to strengthen synergies. The new dates are, respectively, on 15 June (Societal Resilience), 16 June (Integrated Disaster Risk Management) and 17 June (Technologies for First and Second Responders). In addition, another hybrid event has been provisionally scheduled (in Brussels) on the 14-16 September along the same format as the one proposed in March.

Finally, please note that CERIS Side-events will take place in the framework of two international conferences, namely on the 4^th May in Lille (France) in the CBRN-E area (https://cbrneconference.fr) and on the 31^st May in Tours (France) in the climate change area (https://ccw2022.sciencesconf.org/). These events will enable to broaden the CERIS community and disseminate information on H2020 achievements to a wider audience.

After a promising start with the continuation of courses for emergency physicians and the conference on February 28, our activities in plenary sessions were stopped because of total confinement in Belgium until June and, then, after a brief lull during the summer leave period, the second wave and the re-confinement still in progress.

However, this period of calm allowed us on the one hand to evaluate our courses for emergency physicians via a very positive feedback from the medical services and firefighters concerning CCS (Contamination Control Station) procedures and methods of dressing and undressing in contaminated environments applied by these first responders as part of their work related to Covid-19 and on the other hand to promote the Institute and develop our network in anticipation of new courses and requested training which will apply as soon as the health situation will allow.

At the request of the Saudi Arabian National Authority for the Chemical and Biological Weapons Conventions, high-level staff from its Board received a one-week training course in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, during which they were introduced to the role of the National Authority of the Chemical Weapons Convention, briefed on the Conference on Disarmament, and the United Nations Disarmament Commission, the two main bodies responsible for negotiating arms control instruments, and on the Biological Weapons Convention. Other briefings allowed them to understand the complexity and rigor of the declarations requested by the Convention, its implementation modalities, its thorough inspection regime, and the usefulness of its Annex on Chemicals. Each training was held over a one-week period and ran 5 consecutive times over a 4 month period.

The theoretical training was completed by a half-day each week at the Technical Secretariat of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), during which they received an overview of its activities.

The training course was the first of its kind addressing the role of the National Authority of the OPCW. Mr Mohammed Abdulaziz S. Albarakah, Minister Plenipotentiary, expressed full satisfaction with the courses.
