Hotzone Solutions Group (HZS) recently participated in the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) 2023 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from February 20-24. This event marked a significant milestone in HZS’s first quarter, as it opened the door to an array of contracts, projects, and collaborations across the Middle East and North Africa.

As a leading provider of training solutions and products for CBRNe/HAZMAT events, Hotzone Solutions aims to enhance the capabilities of both public and private sectors to predict, respond, mitigate, and recover from such incidents. During the event, Hotzone Solutions’ CEO had the privilege of meeting with key stakeholders, including His Excellency the Commander in Chief for Civil Defence, the Head of the Civil Defence Academy in Abu Dhabi, and the Civil Defence Unit in Sharjah. Delegates who previously attended HZS’s training courses in ICI Belgium and other training facilities in Europe expressed their excitement regarding future CBRN training. At IDEX, Hotzone Solutions attracted significant interest from companies in India, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and the UAE, who were keen to explore the Live Agent Training offered by HZS for their armed forces, police, and customs officers. The CEO of Hotzone Solutions Group, Mr Olivier Mattmann, was received by General Simeon Trajkovski, Head of G-5, Strategic Planning and Development in the General Staff of North Macedonian Armed Forces and associated high-ranking officers delegation.

The visit concluded with an agreement to further explore the potential for military-civilian/corporate sector cooperation between Hotzone Solutions and the North Macedonian authorities. After a promising start with the continuation of courses for emergency physicians and the conference on February 28, our activities in plenary sessions were stopped because of total confinement in Belgium until June and, then, after a brief lull during the summer leave period, the second wave and the re-confinement still in progress.

However, this period of calm allowed us on the one hand to evaluate our courses for emergency physicians via a very positive feedback from the medical services and firefighters concerning CCS (Contamination Control Station) procedures and methods of dressing and undressing in contaminated environments applied by these first responders as part of their work related to Covid-19 and on the other hand to promote the Institute and develop our network in anticipation of new courses and requested training which will apply as soon as the health situation will allow.

At the request of the Saudi Arabian National Authority for the Chemical and Biological Weapons Conventions, high-level staff from its Board received a one-week training course in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, during which they were introduced to the role of the National Authority of the Chemical Weapons Convention, briefed on the Conference on Disarmament, and the United Nations Disarmament Commission, the two main bodies responsible for negotiating arms control instruments, and on the Biological Weapons Convention. Other briefings allowed them to understand the complexity and rigor of the declarations requested by the Convention, its implementation modalities, its thorough inspection regime, and the usefulness of its Annex on Chemicals. Each training was held over a one-week period and ran 5 consecutive times over a 4 month period.

The theoretical training was completed by a half-day each week at the Technical Secretariat of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), during which they received an overview of its activities.

The training course was the first of its kind addressing the role of the National Authority of the OPCW. Mr Mohammed Abdulaziz S. Albarakah, Minister Plenipotentiary, expressed full satisfaction with the courses.

WCO is the only independent intergovernmental organization with competence in Customs matters.

In April, 2018, the WCO launched a new initiative for Customs administrations in the West and Central Africa specifically focusing on border-security-related challenges in this region. The objective of the Security Project in West and Central Africa (WCASP) is to assist Customs Administrations in West and Central Africa to strengthen their capacity, focusing on The Programme Global Shield (PGS) to Counter illicit trafficking and diversion of components used to manufacture Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Through the provision of these devices, the Project will assist recipient Customs Administrations in their efforts to countering illicit trafficking and diversion of chemicals used to improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Hotzone Solutions is very proud to be a part of this project and contribute for safe world.

Hotzone Solutions Group was present at the NCT Europe 2018 event held at the Dutch National CBRN Training Center in Vught from 3 to 5 July 2018 as one of the Bronze Sponsors. The three- day event was featured by multinational CBRN/C-IED/EOD exercises, conferences, workshops and large indoor and outdoor industry exhibitions. HZS in cooperation with Mac7 Training, developed and performed the scenarios for the NCT Pro Trainings. Teams from different countries and units were matched to work together on solving CBRNe, C-IED/EOD scenarios. The participating teams included:

HZS received much positive feedback from the teams who were participating.

The CBRN community showed great interest in the new range of innovative and effective Hotzone Solutions  products for CBRNE defense and for environmental protection and remediation. Products such as the Electrostatic Decontamination Kit (EDK) which combines top of the line technology to offer the easiest way to decontaminate threats, the CoMRad-1000, a handheld – two in one – combined Metal and Gamma Radiation Detector and last but not least, the HZS Drone – unmanned aircraft system of radiological and chemical surveillance, DecPol from Ouvry (to be used in case of chemical or biological contamination on equipment, weapons or skin). These new products are all now apart of the HZS product portfolio.

Also on display;  the Sample Collection Kit, Field Spectroscopy Kit, Hotzone Identifier HazCat Kit, Hotzone Identifier Explosives Kit, CBRNe transport Packaging from Saab, Stealth Coatings from Intermat, Raman Spectroscopy Serstech and the CWA Simulants Kit.

Olivier Mattmann (HZS CEO), Oliver Terzic (Research Development Manager) and Milana Hoffman (Communications Manager), explained to interested parties features of the innovative HZS products and products of HZS partners on display as well as discussed the benefits of what our HZS Live Agent Training can provide.  Boban Cekovic, (CBRN SME – General Manager, Operations) Lucy Lebedinskaya (Special Projects Manager) and Ad Kocx (HZS Senior Consultant) are responsible for developing and running these trainings in the field.

Besides participating to this event, Hotzone Solutions Group was also one of the sponsors of this NCT Event. NCT USA was opened by a live CBRNE capability demonstration performed by the Hazardous Materials Response team from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and the Bomb Squad from the Fairfax Country Police Department. Followed by two days of exhibition, conferences and targeted workshops with high-ranking speakers and delegates from major decision making bodies.

The Hotzone Solutions Group, a well know CBRNE training provider, exhibited for the occasion products of its own makeup as well as the products of its technology partners, such are 3DX-RAY (United Kingdom), Serstech and SAAB (Sweden). 136 States Parties participated in the Twenty-Second Session of CSPs of the OPCW. Majority of the representatives have visited of the ICI/HZS stand and expressed big interest to the HZS CBRNE products, live agent CBR training services and other services provided by ICI and HZS.
Representatives (Ambassadors and Technical Advisors) from North and Central Africa, Mid East, South East Asia and South America have expressed their wish to cooperate with ICI/HZS in live agent training and to purchase CBRNE equipment.
All visitors to the stand were very interested to know great details the new range of HZS innovative products for CBRNE defense and environment protection which were presented at HZS Product Catalog, such as: the Invasive Technologies Monica & Midas Systems for remote case entry for sampling and disposal of CBW agents and toxic substances; the Sea Based Radiation Early Warning System to warn and protect the population from radiation hazards; the Hotzone Responder DAL, a self-sustained deployable analytical laboratory for CBRE threat agents, environmental pollution assessment and response to major industrial accidents the ; and the Plasma Mobile Hazardous Material Treatment Unit for hazardous waste treatment.
